On Wednesday, November 30, 2006 it rained all day and
into the night. The temperature hovered around the mid 60s to 70 degree.
On Thursday morning it was still warm but temperatures were starting to fall and
it was still raining. About mid morning sleet was mixed in with the rain
and by noon temps were around the freezing point and dropping quickly. By
the end of the day the damage had been done and approximately 400,000
homes/businesses were without power. The weight of the ice was breaking
tree branches all over the metro St. Louis area. The images below were
taken on Friday, December 1, 2006 at around noon. I shot these at Lemay
Park about two blocks from my home. While the scenery itself was
beautiful, it was also deadly considering the damage that had been done..
